Facts About Glenmont (Wheaton), Maryland
Glenmont is located in the Montgomery Country area of Maryland. Due to its proximity to Wheaton, Glenmont and Wheaton are usually referred to as one, namely, the Glenmont-Wheaton community.
Nestled in an area where there are rolling hills delightfully broken by small streams, almost all the small communities in the Glenmont area has access to at least one natural spring that still produces acquifer-fed water. There are a lot of things to do keep yourself occupied without going too far. For example, nearer to Glenmont, there are the Wheaton Regional Park, Brookside Gardens and Nature Center, and Rock Creek Park. Or you can head for the nearby Smithsonian Museum. If you are willing to spend a bit more time on the road (rest assured, it will be less than one hour!), go to the famous aquarium at Baltimore's Inner Harbor and spend a couple of hours viewing thousands of aquatic fish.
History buffs would be pleased to know that there are a number of historical sites close by. For example, the Monocacy National Battlefield is the site where the Battle of Monocacy Junction (also known as ‘The Battle That Saved Washington’) was fought during the Civil War. There is also the Antietam National Battlefield to visit, which offers a bit more – not just the battlefield site, but also a national military cemetery and a museum showcasing a war field hospital. Do not worry about running out of historical sites to frequent because there are a variety of additional places such as the Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, Eisenhower National Historic Site, and a myriad others. Your time will be jam-packed with so many historical and educational day trips, you wouldn’t know where to begin!
If you don’t feel like cooking after a long day’s work, there is no end to all-American as well as ethnic eating places near Glenmont, serving food that appeals to a variety of palates bringing scrumptious cuisines for you to sample on a daily basis!
Indeed, life in Glenmont is peaceful and leisurely, but not compromising all needed commercial services warranted of the regular modern life. Like in all towns in Montgomery County, there are many shopping centers close by, containing the normal staples such as a supermarket, pharmacy, convenience store, barber, sporting goods store, small markets, restaurants, gasoline service stations, and many others.
In short, with Maryland’s size of only 12,406.68 square miles (Maryland is the 9th smallest American state!) you can have daily entrée to almost all the amazing natural and human-made places, because they are literally placed on your very doorstep right here in Glenmont!
